Following on from the election of five new Board members at the recent AGM, we are delighted to announce that Si Wilson has now been co-opted onto the Grimsby Town Supporters Trust Board.
The following is Si's statement regarding his decision to join the GTST Board.
Recently, supporting Town hasn’t been the biggest barrel of laughs. When the ‘credit crunch’ bit, Town fans had already endured a spell of misery long enough that a bit of belt-tightening was something we’d dreamed of upon a certain left-back’s neck for a number of seasons. And that’s just on the pitch.
Behind the scenes there’s a lot that has been done, and a lot still to do. The trust is an integral part of ensuring that the football club can progress and that its members’ voices are heard and considered. I bring ten years of top level experience working and managing in the advertising, design, and digital industry to the table, and in that time have avoided uttering the phrase ‘blue skies thinking’. I know what it’s like to be critical and be criticised, but also how to do the right thing at the right time. Town fans may know me more as the man who started off the Electronic Fishcake back in 1998, and then got Cod Almighty going with my mates (which we still do). I’ve tried to do my bit for Town in the past, raising £2000 to pay for the fans’ day I organised for the Bradford game in January 2003, even though my daughter was due about the same time and I was planning it from my home in deepest West Yorkshire. It may not always be fun behind the scenes, but there’s a job to be done, and if I am involved I’ll try to put a smile on people’s faces as they do it. |
